44 - Random Thoughts

Corruption - worldwide - is but a symptom of the deeply rooted spiritual bankruptcy in society. Society and individuals lack the moral strength to withstand onslaught of material desires. As Gandhi is supposed to have said "There is enough for everyone's need; there is not enough for one man's greed".
Social and political protests may only replace one ruling order by another. But they cannot treat this deep-rooted sickness in society - because a sick man cannot treat himself and in any case, treating symptoms will not lead to the ultimate cure.
Till human beings can find the way - and it is very much possible - to go beyond material desires, symptoms such as corruption, crime, terrorism, riots will continue to trouble society and us.

The core at corruption is losing way from the value system of dharma. The modern capitalist societies have created this illusion that more money means more respect, value, happiness & what not.

Its an unfortunate happening due to which most children are trained by parents to think of careers that bring more money, than developing interests & balance of life.

Well said Moksha. Only small difference I feel that it has nothing to do with capitalism or socialism or any other such "ism". Its just that we all seem to have forgotten some basic principles. Sri Ramana Maharishi is quoted to have said the following:
"Happiness (or bliss) is the very nature of the Self; Happiness and the Self are not different. There is no Happiness in any object of the world. We imagine through our ignorance that we derive happiness from objects. When the mind goes out, it experiences misery. In truth when its desires are fulfilled, it returns to its own place and enjoys the happiness that is the Self".
Our problem as a society and as individuals is that we still are running "outside" led by all our desires.
